Somehow, in the late 50's and early 60's it became evil

to chastise or physically force a child to avoid danger/evil.

So we are supposed to have mini-therapy sessions with children

and possibly give them a time out.

No more boxing of ears, no slaps on the wrists or hands.

I am not advocating hurting children as much as wondering if

the old ways were so bad - then why aren't the young adults

- children of today - just wonderful people all of the time ?

When we finally grow humble enough to ask God to do what

it takes for us to Follow HIS WILL - then it is not punishment,

it is not painful for pains sake, it is stern love - the love that does

not ignore sin, but the love that will not tolerate self deception

that calls itself tolerance.

Trying to be an authentic Christian in a world that does not

really believe in the infinite tragedy of sin and thus does not

believe that God may need to "box our spiritual ears" - makes

it very difficult to accept everything in the Spiritual Life not

going your way.

Reminds me of this:-

Holy Sonnets:
Batter my heart, three-person'd God
By John Donne

Batter my heart, three-person'd God, for you
As yet but knock, breathe, shine, and seek to mend;
That I may rise and stand, o'erthrow me, and bend
Your force to break, blow, burn, and make me new.
I, like an usurp'd town to another due,
Labor to admit you, but oh, to no end;
Reason, your viceroy in me, me should defend,
But is captiv'd, and proves weak or untrue.

Yet dearly I love you, and would be lov'd fain,
But am betroth'd unto your enemy;
Divorce me, untie or break that knot again,
Take me to you, imprison me, for I,
Except you enthrall me, never shall be free,
Nor ever chaste, except you ravish me.
